Get the right pet advice
Luxurious accommodation and home comforts,
pharmaceuticals, dining delights, and expert
advice - the local pet store is much more than a
place to procure a family pet.
Sure there are plenty of creatures on offer for those
wanting to start, or add to, a family menagerie - hand
reared birds, an impressive variety of fish, cuddly
rabbits, kittens or pups, guinea pigs, mice and rats can
all be found at most local pet stores.
There is also the option of something a little
more unusual such as a pet hermit crab, a scorpion or
even a spider.
But the focus of most pet shop owners and their
staff these days is to offer an all-encompassing service
to ensure that customers get the support they need to
best select and care for their animals.
This all begins with suitable advice when it comes to
choosing a pet or two.
Bowral Pets and Aquarium owner Jeremy Maitland
is quick to point out that choosing a pet that best suits
the family and home environment is all important.
"For example a Border Collie would be unsuitable
for someone who has only a small block of land, but
this smaller environment would be fine for a Cavalier
King Charles Spaniel," He said.
"Sometimes a gold fish is the best first pet to
understand what is needed as far as caring for an
animal and the life cycle is concerned."
Jeremy assures that support and advice offered from
any good pet store does not end with the pet selection.
"Pet shops have become the pharmacist to the
animal world - it's the place where pet owners often
turn for advice on such matters as behavioural patterns,
food and health needs of their animal," he said.
"Our team of staff takes part in ongoing
training offered through suppliers and other
educational institutions to ensure they can offer
informed advice to customers."
A visit to a pet store is certainly something that
many people of all ages love to do regardless of
whether they are seeking out a new pet, looking to buy
food or equipment for an existing pet or simply
wanting to see what is available.
Jeremy said the team at Bowral Pets and Aquariums
encouraged people to drop into the store to see the
latest trends in pet care.
And the experience is sure to be a pleasant surprise
with two-storey rabbit hutches, a wide range of pet
bedding, toys, and other accommodation available to buy.
Meanwhile fish tanks that replicate scenes from the
barrier reef or hand reared birds in open cages are
among the many sights to be enjoyed.
There is even a do-it-yourself dog wash available,
which Jeremy said was constantly in use.
He said there was also the opportunity for people to
handle many of the pets with socialising of animals in
the store an important part of ensuring they were a
good addition to a family.
Bowral Pets and Aquariums is open seven day
from 8.30am-5.30pm Monday to Friday, 8.30am to
