For many in Australia St Patrick's Day means a
chance for a bit of fun at the pub or with friends
drinking Guinness and bubbles.
Throw in a shamrock, some green coloured
clothing and some music and you could be forgiven
for thinking you were actually in the birth country of
the joyfully celebrated day on March 17.
That's good news for Irish born Bowral woman,
Olive Hodgson who holds the annual festivities near
and dear to her heart and embraces the day as a way
to keep her Gaelic (Gaeilge) traditions alive for her two
Australian-born children, Callum and Maeve.
Olive is proud to call Australia home, having
moved to the country with her Australian-born
husband Andrew16 years ago.
However, she is equally proud of her Irish
culture and the experience of growing up in the
country rich in traditions.
Olive is one of nine children of Leo and Baba
(Maire) Brennan from Gweedore in County Donegal.
In fact it would be fair to say that Olive's
family are somewhat treasures in the County.
Her parents were recently given a key to
the county and it is not surprising
considering the contribution the
family has made within the
community and internationally.
Her father was the long
term owner of the
popular local pub, aptly
named Leos. Olive
