Mittagong Town Band

Established in 1881 as the first brass band in the
district, the Mittagong Band helped residents to
celebrate their festivities and to commemorate
the more solemn occasions.
When the opening ceremony of the Sydney Harbour
Bridge was famously disrupted in 1932 by Francis De
Groot who, on horseback, slashed the ribbon with a
sword, the Mittagong Band made use of the
