They made a permanent return to Australia in 1969 with Inge
pregnant with their sixth child at the time.
"I was already a grandmother by the time I had my sixth and seventh
children," Inge said.
The couple also has 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
They have both been diagnosed and survived cancer and Karl
underwent a triple by-pass in 1992.
But despite their many life challenges they agree they never regret a
day of their lives together.
"Our parents and many others said our marriage wouldn't last a year,
but we proved them all wrong," Karl said.
Inge adds that life's many challenges "have only made our marriage
"Sure we have our disagreements - anyone who says they don't fight
with their partner is lying - but we are best friends," Inge said.
"The most important quality to make any marriage work is love,
followed closely by plenty of give and take and of course it is important
to be there for each other through the good and bad times."
Karl and Inge moved to the
Southern Highlands in 1995
and have become well-
known as the hosts of the
German Show each Thursday
afternoon on Highland FM.
Karl said that he was always happy if he woke up each morning to
find Inge still beside him.
"If I wake up, look to my right and Inge is still breathing I know it
will be a beautiful day," he said.
"My greatest wish now is that when our time is finally up, we both
