PILATES is a great way for people of all ages to
improve their quality of life. Little aches and pains

Maintaining a strong inner core strength is not just

It is a physical tness system developed in the 20th
century by Joseph Pilates in Germany. This method,
originally known as contrology, evolved with the belief
that humans could use their minds to control muscles,
and became the philosophy used when rehabilitating
injured soldiers in World War I.
Pilates exercises focus on proper alignment, centring,
concentration, control, precision, breathing and
owing movement. It may o er relief from spinal, back
and neck pain and an improvement in posture.
Added to this pilates has been known to improve
muscle strength in people of all ages and o er
improved exibility. The core postural muscles
that help keep the body balanced are essential for
providing support of the spine and it is this muscle
group that does all the hard work during a pilates class.
The majority of exercises are done on padded mats on
the oor, with speci cally designed apparatus o ering
gentle resistance training to strengthen muscles.
