He has since starred in more than 30 tests for
the green and gold, including the successful
Champions Trophy campaign in Melbourne
late last year and now the World Cup.
Turner returned to Australia in mid-March
as part of a World Cup championship team,
which took out top honours in the nal
against Germany 2-1.
It was the rst time the Kookaburras had
won the World Cup in 24 years.
The Highlander played a key role in the
Aussie's winning run, despite a back injury at
the start of the tournament, threatening his
role in the team.
He was on the verge of being sent home
before a ball had been hit, but a medical
clearance was a welcome relief for the
talented player who went on to score six goals
in six games in the lead up to the nal.
Turner's representative commitments are
certain to keep him busy for the remainder of

"He also hopes to play a few games with
Bowral and Bankstown Hockey Clubs in the
winter competition," GT senior said.
"Somewhere in among this schedule he has

GT Junior has described his representative
experience as "something I will never forget".
"My dream was to play hockey for
Australia and I'm very grateful that I got the
opportunity to do that," he said.
"The fact that we won the world cup under
Ric Charlesworth's coaching is the icing on
"I'm still nding it hard to take it (the world
cup win) all in, but I am very excited. It's good
to see that all the hard work by the team has

It is clear that family support has been
integral in Turner's hockey success.
Partner, Bec Ginn, said that while she missed
Glenn when he was away she always knew his
dream was to play hockey for Australia.
The supportive partner is a role she will
continue to play as Turner aspires to his next
dream to be part of the Australian team to
compete at the Olympic Games in London
Meanwhile, Turner's advice for budding
hockey champions is to "keep practicing".
"I have been playing and training for hockey
since I was ve years old," he said.
"I would muck around on my own and with
my brother David, practising hitting, icking,
dribbling and tackling.
"I think the love of the game plays a big part
in your achievements -- I always had a hockey
stick in my hand because I loved the sport.
"As you get older, training and coaching
plays a big part in success.
"At the moment, training with the Australian
team is intense. We are lucky if we get one
day o a week. Our training consists of gym,
speed sessions, endurance running and on
"Recovery, stretching and resting is really
important, as well as eating the right foods
and supplements at the right time."
But Turner is quick to point out that none of
his achievements would be possible without
the support of his family.
"My parents paid for trips, mum drove me an
hour to train three times a week, and then my
family and friends have been there at games
on the weekend," he said. n
