THE TERTINI WINES cellar door is always a hive of activity. Whether
its hosting a tour group, a corporate function, launching a new wine
or going about its usual day to day business of showing customers its
award-winning range of wines -- the cellar door of this popular winery
charms visitors every time.
With enough space for everyone to enjoy an individual wine tasting, visitors
to Tertini Wines receive personalised ser vice from trained sta who revel in the
job at hand. Winery tours are always available for those wanting to learn more
about the production side of the wine business.
Opened 18 months ago on the site of High Range Vintners along Kells Creek
Road, no one could have anticipated the success of Tertini Wines. With over 120
wine show medals and trophies, the wines draw locals and visitors in a constant
stream to the west side of the Southern Highlands.
Cellar Door Manager Jaimie Vale, who is renowned for his barista skills, assists
sales and marketing manager Robert Kay at the cellar door. The advertised
"excellent co ee" sign along Wombeyan Caves Road, lures customers to sit and
enjoy a co ee with Italian treats while taking in the ambience of the winery.
The success of the 2005 Riesling has awakened lovers of this variety to the
unique qualities that the Southern Highlands cool climate region can produce.
"The 2005 Riesling is a remarkable wine when you consider the vines were only
four years old when the wine was made," said Mr Kay. "It continues to shine with
a total of three trophies and six gold medals received from recognised national
Riesling is proving to be well suited to the cool climate of the Southern
Highlands and is particularly enjoying the Tertini Wines vineyard at "Yaraandoo".
Mr Kay also mentions the success of the 2006 Riesling, which has been awarded
4.5 glasses and 91 points by James Halliday in the Australian Wine Companions
The Tertini Reser ve Riesling 2006 was awarded 5 glasses (stars) and 94 points
in the same publication and was named in the Top 100 NSW wines. The
range of wines extends from pinot grigio to the rare arneis variety, pinot noir
to cabernet, with each wine crafted by up and coming winemaker, Jonathan
Holgate. Arneis is a unique variety, originating from Piedmont in North West
Italy, and is thriving in the "Yaraandoo" vineyard. The recently released Reser ve
and Barrel Fermented Arneis are available in limited quantities at the cellar door.
Tertini Wines is committed to producing the best quality fruit from the
"Yaraandoo" vineyard by following a selective program of hand pruning, regular
soil testing, careful canopy management, low cropping and hand picking.
This attention to detail is the responsibility of viticulturist Paul Quirico, who
has been tending the Tertini vines with meticulous care since they were
planted 9 years ago.
