long commitment for Mittagong couple, Jason
Bailey and Bee Satongun.
But the couple concedes the road to marital
happiness takes plenty of hard work especially
when it involves a union of eastern and western
When Jason headed to Thailand ve years ago
he was on a soul-searching mission.
He was a property developer, disillusioned by his
fast-pace life, who was looking for a new direction.
Jason was born and raised in the Highlands and
owned a Thai restaurant in Mittagong.
He had a dream to master the craft of the "old
world" style of Royal Thai cooking and sought the
support of Chumpol, the executive chef at the
Blue Elephant Restaurant in Bangkok.
Bee was a Thai local working at the Blue
Elephant Restaurant as the private secretary to
Chumpol who specialised in Royal Thai cooking.
She was also the administrator of the restaurant's
Bee was spiritually grounded in Buddhism,
instilled in her from birth, and possessed a passion
for food with a strong practical approach to
Chumpol, in is wisdom, saw a common interest
between the two individuals and subconsciously
weaved his match-making magic.
"Chumpol originally told me he was busy and
decided to introduce me to Bee who he thought
was well experienced to guide me in the ways of
Royal Thai cooking," Jason said.
"He asked Bee to take me to all the di erent
food regions of Thailand to teach me the cooking
ways and di erence of food in each area. >
