Meet the team | Camera House
Name: Peter Moore and his team - Jennie
Payne, Bevin Hearne, Tess Ellis and Caitie
Bradley, with combined experience in retail
photography of 12 years.
When did you open in Bowral? Camera
House has quite a history -- it was opened over
30 years ago by the Cottee Family in Bong Bong
Street, Bowral, changing hands six years ago. It was
recently purchased by Peter, when he discovered
the photographic outlet was closing, due to the
retirement of the previous owner.
Why did you choose your current location?
In conjunction with the change of ownership, we
chose to move from Wingecarribee Street to High
Street Arcade into brand new, brighter premises.
We believe that High Street has the potential to
become a new focal point for Bowral shopping,
being conveniently located between Bong Bong
Street and the Coles car park where there is ample
parking for our customers.
What are the core elements of your
business? To o er the full range of photographic
services - from specialist laboratory printing on high
quality paper and canvases, marketing cameras
and photographic equipment and accessories such
as frames, albums, DVD burning, posters and photo
gifting. We aim to meet the complete needs of
each and every customer.
Describe a typical day at Bowral Camera
House? No two days are the same at the Camera
House, with every day bringing a new challenge.
We frequently have to meet requests for urgent
photo printing, while at the same time having to
deal meticulously with photo restoration using
What is your immediate goal? To continue
providing competitive quality service to all our
customers in our new outlet store at the High
What is the most satisfying part of your
business? We share many important events
with our customers, such as the birth of a new
baby, weddings, holidays, rst day at school etc.
We know many customers by name which
always makes our day a little more personal.
From whom, what or where do you gain
inspiration? From the positive reactions of our
customers, especially when they say "I'm really
grateful for the extra help and time you've taken
to assist us."
Describe the greatest challenge you have
faced in setting up the business? Designing
the layout of the new retail shop has been very
challenging, not to mention organising the move.
What is the funniest thing that has
happened to you at work? Quite often our
customers say we make them look older than
they really are, particularly with their passport
Where do you see the photographic
industry going in the future?
There has been rapid change in the photographic
industry over the past decade, with the advent
of digital cameras on electronic media. One big
issue to be addressed relates to the safe storage
of digital images and having reliable restoration
of images from backups. Still by far the safest
method of storage of photographs is in "hard copy"
photographs -- With our photo lab, we guarantee
the quality of our photographic prints for 99 years!
