Located 126-km from Sydney
and 661-meters above sea-level
Bowral has a climate and scenery
reminiscent of rural England. The
Bowral area was rst traversed by
Europeans in 1798.
The coming of the railway was crucial
to the town's establishment. In the
1920s the town experienced another
building boom and the area became
a popular retreat. Families would stay
at guest houses and hotels. The town
site, initially known as Wingecarribee,
soon changed to Burradoo and, by
the time the railway station was built
in 1867, it was known as Bowral. By
1881 the population had risen to 363
and was increasing. Wealthy Sydney-
siders began to establish grand
country homes and English-style
gardens. Bowral was also the home of
famous cricketer Sir Donald Bradman.
Bowral's current population is
approximately 8, 378. There are
around 3,287-dwellings of which 79%
are houses; 46.4% are fully owned;
28.6% are being purchased and 74%
are owner occupied.
In the last 12 months there have been
156-home sales in Bowral and Raine &
Horne Bowral has accounted for 23%
of them; an exceptional high success
rate given there are around 18 agents
in the area. n
