FOR 16 YEARS & OVER
Join the Army
The truck pulled up with two big tanks swaying
on the tray - it was Aunty Jean making more
decisive steps in her now very modern life.
She would have her own water supply even
though she lives in town. She said "And it
will save most of my water rates too."
So the house can be connected to one big
tank, 10,000 litres or more and this is directly
plumbed to the mains water supply pipes.
"It's a little beauty," (she likes to inform me
these days) "You see darling, when I have used
the water to only 10 percent full the clever
little valve clicks it automatically back to mains
water and I have no problems running out. And
when it rains the tank lls again and get to that
10 percent line, I'm back on my own water."
"That second tank on the truck,
what's that for?" I ask.
"It's to be attached to the big garage and shed
I've got down the back yard, and that's just for
watering my vegies with a tap at the bottom
of the tank, for the hose attachment. Simple."
And her neighbor is putting one small
tank o the kitchen to gravity feed pure
rainwater to its own tap at the sink.
These tanks can be any shape to t all
the tight spaces around her home.
Next day I see she is down in the veggie
garden before breakfast, spreading mulch
over the dark soil and talking to the beans
and beetroot. This clever energetic woman
has a lot to teach her younger neighbours.
"If I can make my own power with those
new fandangle PV cells, or a windmill, with
a Green Loan, then I can get o the grid."
I said, "Well, you will need to come and talk to
our PV people at the forum, sweet little thing."
And don't forget jean, it's on next
Saturday at the Berry School of Arts.
I'll get you there by 9am. n
